we decided to start no tv tuesday yesterday, and thought it would be a good idea to go out for some dinner. the driving factor for dinner was that yesterday in seattle was a dine for darfur event. what a great cause. 25% of your dining bill goes to a relief aid...
but wait a second...
im going to go spend $100 on a swanky dinner. (well actually, JASON is going to spend 100$ on a swanky dinner because i accidentally (but conveniently) left my wallet at work- it caused a problem with drinking while waiting, but it all ended up ok) ANYWAY. $100 on dinner translates to $25 in aid... so follow my crazy logic for a second... wouldn't it be better if all those people who were out there doing the right thing just GAVE the entire amount they were going to spend on dinner to the effort. my thinking is out there... i know.
i realize the fact that most people DONT do that. and so something is better than nothing. and maybe you catch a few diners who waited in the god awful lines at the handful of restaurants participating who DIDNT know about the effort...
but still...
all these people were gathered round waiting for tables, connected to one another in their effort to help. and the comraderie was nice. but the slight smell of smug that hung in the air seemed so soulless.
all this ranting is hypocritical of course. we are those people who DONT donate our money. we went out the the select restaurants and did "our part." we dont have souls.
its just the principle.

i agree. we are the same, go to help, think it would be better to give it all, and then walk away. it is so hard to know what to do. esp when the average year salary in ethiopia is $112. one dinner for you is the same as their WHOLE SALARY for a YEAR. amazing.
i worded that wrong. i need to start proofreading. hopefully you got the idea. man, i need more sleep these days.
